Ramón López

  • Born: 1799, Alburquerque, Nuevo Méjico, Nueva España 3,10,270,436
  • Marriage (1): María Juana de los Reyes Jaramillo on 6 Apr 1818 in San Felipe de Neri, Alburquerque, Nuevo Méjico, Nueva España 412,437
  • Marriage (2): Benigna Martínez in 1848/1850 in Valencia County, New México Territory
  • Died: Bef 1870, Lemitar, Socorro, New México Territory 12

bullet  General Notes:

I had orginally believed my López ancestors remained in the Alburquerque area until María Juana de los Reyes Jaramillo, died in 1848 in the Socorro area.

Ramón is listed in the 1860 U.S. census as living in Lemitar with my great, great grandmother, Benigna Martínez (Martín or Lueras) along with four of their children, one being Celso López, my great grandfather who later married María Abrana Sánchez. By this time, all of his children from his previous marriage were adults. Ramón died sometime between 1860 and 1870. Benigna was listed as López in the 1860 census, but uses her maiden name in the 1870 census, which was a common practice for New Mexican Hispanic widows to do at the time.

My Ramón matches perfectly with Ramón the son of Vicente Antonio López, but my nephew's R-M269 Y-DNA does not match that of another person's (with documentation of their line ending at Diego López who was married to Juana Candelaria) Y-DNA which is J-M267 .

That leaves me back at square one in finding the parents and ancestors of my Great Great Grandfather Ramón. Possibilites are:

Ramón is a different man than the son of Vicente Antonio Lopes and María Antonia Chaves. I find only this Ramón Lopes living in Lemitar as well as his children with Juana de los Reyes Jaramillo living near by. Benigina, my great great grandmother and her son, my great grandfather, Celso were living in Lemitar with Ramón according to the U.S. Federal Cenus of Lemitar in 1860. The age given on this Census matches the date for Ramón on the Spanish Censuse of 1802 and the age given for Ramon on his when he married Juana de los Reyes Jaramillo [Roots Ltd., Diligencias Matrimoniales]

Ramón or Celso had a different father than their siblings. Even though Ramón's (married to Juana Jaramillo) father listed on his marriage record is given as Vicente Lopes, there are not birth records for this Ramón, and it was not unusual for adopted or step-parents to be given a parents on records of the time. Celso's birth records give his father to be Ramón, as are his other three siblings who were born before and after he was.

Someone along the line was likely adopted.

bullet  Noted events in his life were:

• Census: U.S. Federal Territorial, 1850, Lemitar, New México Territoy. 419
The only Ramon López living in Lemitar in 1850 is listed as Ramón Lopis 50 years old, born in New México along with his son (Antonio) José who is 25 and born in New México.

• Census, 19 Jul 1860, Lemitar, Socorro, New México Territory. 12
