• Background Information. 141 Alan de Percy married Emma, daughter of Gilbert de Gant, by Alice, daughter of Hugh de Montfort. Their son William names his mother, Emma de Gant, in his confirmation to Whitby. She was also named as William's mother in a Bridlington Charter. At the Lindsey Survey, Alan de Percy held 4 carucates in Horkstow of Walter de grant; these had been held by Gilbert de Gant in 1086, and presumably represented a further portion of Emma's maritagium. Alan was living in 1130 according to the Pipe Roll, 31 Hen. I, p. 35, and likely died before Dec. 1135. Emma, as his widow, with the consent of William her son, gave land in Wold Newton, of her maritagium, to Bridlington Priory. Emma likely died shortly after her husband, sometimes before Dec. 1135.
