Alan de Percy was the son and heir of the first William de Percy. He confirmed his father's gifts to Whitby abbey and made several additions; and was a benefactor of St. Peter's hospital, York. With his son William, he gave land in Holme on the Wolds, held of the the bishop of Durham, to Haslat de Leconfield.

Sir Alan, married Emma, daughter of Gilbert de Gant, whose maritagium included land in Wold Newton, Ganton and Staxton, and presumably also in Horkstow, Lincoln. His wife Emma gave a carucate of land in Wold New to Bridlington priory after the death of Alan.

• Background Information. 141
Alan de Percy was son and heir of William and Emma. On 9 Jan 1100, William II issued a notification that he had restored to the Bishop of Durham lands in the soke of Welton, East Riding, Yorkshire, which had been in dispute between Alan and the Bishop. In the period 1100-1115 and later, he issued charters to Whitby Abbey, confirming gifts made by his father in Yorkshire and Lindsey, and adding gifts of his own. In a couple of charters, Alan mentions his father, William de Percy, and his mother, Emma de Port; and among the witnesses to these charters are William, Walter and Richard his brothers, and Picot de Percy.

In Easter week 1121, Alan de Percy was present at Durham with other magnates when the monds of Durham reasserted their claim to the patronage of Tynemouth Priory. He witnessed notifications issued by Herny I at Portsmouth in 1109-1114, at Winchester in 1115-116, and Rockingham in 1126-1129. He was benefactor of St. Peter's Hospital, York, granting privileges at his mills of Stamford Bridge; and, with William his son, he gave to Haslat de Leconfield land in Holme-on-the-Wolds.

Alan de Percy married Emma, daughter of Gilbert de Gant, by Alice, daughter of Hugh de Montfort. Their son William names his mother, Emma de Gant, in his confirmation to Whitby. She was also named as William's mother in a Bridlington Charter. Alan was living in 1130 according to the Pipe Roll, 31 Hen. I, p. 35, and likely died before Dec. 1135. Emma, as his widow, with the consent of William her son, gave land in Wold Newton, of her maritagium, to Bridlington Priory. Emma likely died shortly after her husband, sometimes before Dec. 1135.
