• Background Information. 681 As early as the reighn of Henry I, mention is made of the family which took its surname from the place called Minshull. Two noble houses have spring from Adam and William, the sons of Augustine de Minshull, who lived at that time. The family of the eldest branch, the descendants of Adam, the first son of Agustine de Minshall, retained the name and the manor of Minshull reign of King Richard II. During the reign of Edward II, king of England, Richard de Minshull married Alice de Praers of Barthomley, by whom he became he became possessed of Aston Hall and other property in Aston Mondrem. Both Minshull and Aston, however, passed to another house, when, in the reign of Richard II, Joanna, the sole daughter of and heiress of Henry de Minshull married to Edmund, a younger son of Sir Thomas Dutton. ~Transactions of the Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire, S. 1, 1848-49, pgs. 87-89

Joan, daughter and heir as well as heir to her uncle Richard, 14 & 37 Edward III. She was the wife of Edmund de Dutton, 5 Richard II, and married for a second time to William de Hoton, 7 Richard II. Heir of Joan, his mother, was Sir Peter de Dutton.
