• Background Information. 968 Geoffrey de Fougères died in 1212: "Obitt: Gaufridus dominus Filgeriarum filius Willelmi et filus Agath filia Wilhemlmi de Jumeot xvii kalenda Julii" is recorded in the chronicle of Savigini [Miscell.ii.,37]. Geoffrey made a complact with his grand-uncle, Guilliame de Fougères to assign as a wedding-portion, to his sister Clemence, wife of the earl of Chester, the land which Raoul de Fougères had possessed in the valley of Mortain, and which he had given to Clemence in her previous marriage to Alan Dinan.
Geoffrey married Matilda, daughter of Eudo, son of Eudo, comté de Porhoët. The articles of marriage were settled between Guilliaume, son of Henri de Fougères, on the one part, and on the other by Eudo, son of the count.
