Cokayne's Complete Peerage, 2nd Edition, (Giffard),Vol. V. p.639. footnote (c), gives the pedigree this way with a mentioned that there must be a generation missing:
Osbern Giffard, the Domesday tenant of Brimpsfield, Stoke, Rockham, etc Hellias Giffard I , married to Ala, succeed his father in 1096 Hellias Giffard II, rendered amount of 100 marks of silver in 1130, married Berta, living in 1167. sister of Walter de Clifford, and daughter of Richard fitz Ponce. This Hellias became a monk in Gloucester Abbey. Hellias Giffard III, owed a fine of £100 in 1166, married to Maud de Berkeley Hellias Giffard IV living in 1221, married to Alice Mautraver, father of John Giffard John Giffard
he New England Historical and Genealogical Register, 1921, Vol. 75, pps. 59-62, is basically like the pedigree given in the Complete Peerage, but has more information. I followed the Complete Peerage and NEHG Register, so there might be a missing generation
• Background Information. 903 Hellias or Elias Giffard of Brimsfield succed his father after 1130. He married Berta de Clifford. A is named a "the Boy" in records, likely to distinguished him from his father. He is named in such way with his wife Berta and his son Walter in the time of Abbot Hamelin, who was abbot from 1148 until 1179. He granted the church of boyton to the monks for the soul of his wife Berta, and his son Walter confrimed this grant. The children of Elia and Berta were: Elias (Hellias) Walter of Boyton, whose name, with that of his brother Gilbert, appears in records from 1177 Gilbert
