Sir Robert de Strikland, knight, granted, of the eve of their marriage, to his son William and his bride Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Ralph Daincourt, knight, by a deed dated at his manor of Great Strickland, the whole manor of Great Strickland, with the service of free tenants there, together with the mill, woods, pastures and other appurtenances, to hold to them and their heirs of the bodies, remainder to his own right heirs. The witnesses were Sir Thomas de Hellebeck, William de Warthecop, Henry Tyror, and others. This Ralph Daincourt had a son also named Ralph, who died without issue, and his daughter Elizabeth succeeded to the inheritance.

Robert was also a witness to a grant of lands at Thrimby to the abbey of St. Mary's York, togehter with Thomas de Musgrave, then under-sheriff to Westmorland, and other witnesses. Thomas Musgrave was under-sheriff to Robert de Veteripont in the latter end of the reign of King Henry III.

• Background Information. 910
Entries in early Close and Patent Rolls show that is Aug 1257, Robert de "Stikeland" was removed from the position of coroner in Westmorland, since the King by letters patent has specially exempted Robert for acting as sheriff, coroner, or in any other office unless he so desired [Cal. Close Rolls, 1257, pp. 85-6; Cal. Patent Rolls, 1257 p. 574]. This exemption had been granted at the instance of Alexander, King of Scotland. [ibid.] Sir Robert subsequently consented to be reappointed; for he was again serving as coroner in 1278, at the time of his decease [Hornyold-Strickland, op.cit., p.13]. Sir Robert was one of the four knights elected to represent Westmorland in the Michaelmas Parliament of 1258; his other colleagues being Sir John de Morville, of Helton Flecket; Sir Robert de Asby, of Great Asby; and Sir Patrick fitz Thomas, of Preston Patrick, ancestor of the Curwens of Workington.
