María, Dame of Montpellier, was born 1182 and died in Rome in 1218. She was buried at St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome. She was the daughter of William VII, Seigneur of Montpellier and his wife Eudoxia Comnenus. María married, 15 Jun 1204, Pedro II, King of Aragón, Count of Barcelona and Gevandur, who was born in 1176 and was killed in the Battle of Muret fighting for Albigenians 14 Sep 1213. Pedro II was the son of Alfonso II, King of Aragón by his wife Sancha of Castile.

King of Aragon (as Pedro II) and Count of Barcelona (as Pere I) from 1196 to 1213, he was the son of Alfonso II of Aragon and Sancha of Castile. In 1205 he acknowledged the feudal supremacy of the Papacy and was crowned in Rome by Pope Innocent III, swearing to defend the Catholic faith (hence his surname, "the Catholic").


Pedro married María de Montpellier, daughter of Guillaume VII Seigneur de Montpellier and Eudokia Komnene.160 (María de Montpellier was born in 1182,160 died in 1218 in Rome 160 and was buried in St. Peter's Cathedral, Rome 160.)
