• Background Information. 141 John le Strange IV, 1st son and heir. In 1255 he had quittance of the common summons for Sussex, and in 1256 with Roger and his brother Herbert was taken and imprisoned at Shrewsbury for a death. In 1257 he had protection, as staying at Chester and on the Welsh marches. In 1260 it was ordered that the castle of Montgomery should be delivered to him, and again in 1265. On 24 Dec 1262 he was summoned to be at Hereford with horses and arms.
John le Strange married Joan, daughter of Roger de Somery, by Nichole, daughter and coheir of William de Aubigny, Earl of Arundel by Mabel, sister and heir of Ranulph, Earl of Chester. He died on or before 26 Feb 1275/6, probably by drowning, before 2 February.
