• Background Information. 964 Robert de Greystoke, son of Thomas succeeded his father in 1247. Robert died in 1264 leaving Elene his widow. His brother William de Greystoke did homage in 1264 for his brother's lands. William died leaving John de Greystoke his heir in 1289. John de Greystoke, son and heir of William son of Thomas, did homage in 1289 at the age of twenty-five for all the lands his fahter held.
On the death of John de Greystoke without issue, the representatives in blood of that family came to an end in the male line. The baronly passed to the son of Joan de GReystoke, wife of William Fitz Ralf, lord of Grimthorp. [Inq.p.m. Edw I, no. 40] This was done by settlement in 1297 before the death of Lord John, who bequeathed his possession ulta hereditatem to Ralf fitz William, his kinsman [Pat.
