In 1293, he had a grant from the king of the Balliewick of Westmoreland and the castles of Appleby and Burh, at first during the pleasure, but afterwards in fee. Robert's wife, Idonea de Buisli, was heir of the castle and nonor of Tickhill. He was a man of great power and wealth. His son and heir was John de Vipont.
