Strange or Le Strange of Knokyn, Ronald le Strange with others of the tenants of Alan Fitz Flaald in Mileham, Norf., witnessed, before 1122, a charter of his lord in favour of Caslracre Priory; he held in Hunstanton, where he made a grant of land which was later confirmed by John le Strange IV; he further attested a grant to Roberts son of Wimer to Castleacre Priory.
Ronald le Strange married Maud, daughter of Hugh de Plaiz, of Bernham, Suff. Ronald died before 1158.

The first recorded ancestor of this family is Roland le Strange, of Brittany, mentioned in deeds dated 1112 and 1122, who came to England temp. Henry I; married Matilda Le Brun, daughter and eventual heiress of Ralph Fitz Herluin (alias Ralph de Hunstanton), mesne lord of lands at Hunstanton under Roger Bigod, tenant in capite, and had issue.
