Robert le Grosvenor

~George Ormerod's The History of County Palatine and City of Chester, Vol III, p. 151, the pedigree for Grosvenour of Hulme has Gilbert le Grosvenour, nephew to Hugh Lupus, earl of Chester, as the beginning of the le Grosvenour family. Gilbert's son is named Robert who is followed by Henry, and Henry's son is Ranulfe le le Grosvenour who was alive during the reign of King John of England. ⁷¹³

Ormerod's pedigree of the Grosvenor family of Allostock, Cheshire, England is based on the famous case of le Scrope vs. le Grosvenor over their coat of arms and tesitmony given by the abbot of Vale Royal in 1389. The oldest Grosvenor was Gilbert who first came to England, followed by his son Robert. Added to this testimony, Ormerod used the pedigrees drawn up by Vernon and Sir Peter Leycester from the Grosvenor deeds in possession of the Shakerley and Leycester family commencing in 1234.
