~George Ormerod's The History of County Palatine and City of Chester, Vol III, p. 151, the pedigree for Grosvenour of Hulme has Gilbert le Grosvenour, nephew to Hugh Lupus, earl of Chester, as the beginning of the le Grosvenour family. • Background Information. 713 Ormerod's pedigree of the Grosvenor family of Allostock, Cheshire, England is based on the famous case of le Scrope vs. le Grosvenor over their coat of arms and tesitmony given by the abbot of Vale Royal in 1389. The oldest Grosvenor was Gilbert who first came to England, followed by his son Robert. Added to this testimony, Ormerod used the pedigrees drawn up by Vernon and Sir Peter Leycester from the Grosvenor deeds in possession of the Shakerley and Leycester family commencing in 1234.
The third member of this family was Henry le Grosvenor, son and heir of Robert Grosvenor of Over Lostock, according to the abbot of Vale Royal, although there are no documents supporting this.
