Robert Pincerna becme the earl's butler upon the death of his father Richard. He married Ivetta, the daughter of William Helgot. William probably descended from the owners of Holegate or Helgot in Corvedale in Shropshire.

Robert shows up in written records as witnesses, once for a charter of William Vernon to Quarr abbey and again about 1147 as a witness to a charter of Henry de Lacy. He gave his son-in-lae, Roger de Gondevill, a garden near the bridge at Chester. Early in the reign of Henry II, Robert is said to have been a baron by tenure. He held the twelfth part of a knight's fee in Lincolnshire among the kings enfeoffed by Simon St. Liz, earl of Northampton, after the death of Henry I.

After the Earl of Cheshire was taken hostage by King Stephen, Robert gave the abbot of Combermere a moiety of his township of Pulton to found a convent of Cistercian monks to pray for the heath and safetely of earl Randle Gernons. This charter was sealed by Robert, his wife Ivetta and his son Robert. The Earl of Cheshire was released by King Stephen, but was poisoned by William Peverel in 1153. The Earl's son, Hugh Kyveliok was his seccessor, and Kyviliok confirmed Robert's gift to the abbot of Combermere.

In the second through fourth years of Henry II (1155-1557) Robert Pincerna held land of Budiford in Warwickshire. After this date, his name no longer shows up in documents so we can assume that he time sometime after 1157.

Children of Robert and Ivetta:
Robert de Engelbi who in the foundation charter of Pulton is called the founder's heir-atlaw
Richard, who ultimately succeeded to the Pincerna estates after the death of his brother Robert who died childless
William Pincerna, witness to charter made about 1153
Gilbert PincernaHugh, who in 1171 was witness to his brother Richard's charter to Calk abbey.
Matilda, who married Roger de Gonderville
Edelina, who married Roger de Somerville
