• Background Information. 874 Elena, daughter of Alan, Lord Galloway, married Roger de Quincy, who in her right became Constable of Scotland. He was made Earl of inchster in England in 1235. He ruled Galloway, or his wife's share of the territory, so severely that the Galwegians, 1247, rose in insurrection against him, and forced him to seek refuge ith the King of Scots. he died 25 Apr 1264. Children of Elena and Roger were:
• Margaret, also called Agnes, married William Earl of Ferrars, also Earl of Derby. She was living in 1280, when she granted Groby to her son William. • Elizabeth, styled Isabella and Marjory, married Alexander Comyn, Earl of buchan. She was alive in 1279. • Elena, married Alan de la Zouch. She died not long before 20 Aug 1296, possesssed of estates in Scotland and in the counties of igton, Berick, Haddington, Kirkendbright, Fife and Ayr. She was succeeded by Alan de la Zouch, aged twenty-four, her grandson.
