Henry Wolcott was born in 1579, baptized 6 Dec 1679 in the parish church of Lydiard St. Lawrence in England, and died 30 May 1655 in Windosor, Connecticut. He was the son of John Wolcott II, born 17 Apr 1545; died 10 Dec 1623; and married, 9 Feb 1578/79 to Agnes Crosse, born 3 Jan 1552; died 2 Nov 1623. John II was a miller as was his father, John Sr. born 10 Sep 1516, died 7 Dec 1571; married Agnes Butler, born circa 1523; died 6 Nov 1606.

• Background Information. 693 John Wolcott, the grandfather of Henry, our American progenitor, was the son of John Wolcott, of Tolland, Somersetshire. The Subsidy Rolls and Wills supply evidence not preserved in the family diaries or parish records. The wife of John Wolcott and grand mother of Henry Wolcott is buried near the Tolland church, and the very old tomb next to hers may be her husband's, although the incription is rendered illegible by time and weather. John's will was dated 9 Feb 1571 and proved April 11, 1572. The family name was spelled Wolcot in both his (Henry's grandfather) will and his son John's (Henry's father) will.

• Possible Ancestory. 541 From page 11 of the Wolcott genealogy, by Chandler Wolcott, 1912:
"The following table tracing the family back to the eleventh century in Wales is found in a footnote to Hollister's History of Connecticut, Vol I, page 189.
"Through the researches of Mr. Somerby, of Boston, in the herald's office, among the subsidy rolls, wills, and parish records of England, the genealogy of Henry Wolcott, Esquire, (the emigrant) has been traced, through fifteen generations, back to Sir John Wolcott, knight, as follows: 1. Jeran Wolcott (son of Sir John of Wolcott, who married Anna, daughter of John Mynde, of Shropshire 2. Roger Wolcott, of Wolcott, married Edith, daughter of Sir. William Donnes, knight. 3. Sir Phillip Wolcott, of Wolcott, who married Julian, daughter of John Herle. 4. John Wolcott, of Wolcott, who married Alice, daughter of David Lloyd, Esquire 5. Sir John Wolcott, of Wolcott, knight, 1382 6. Thomas Wolcott 7. John Wolcott, of Wolcott 8. John Wolcott, of Wolcott, who married Matilda, daughter of Sir Richard Cornwal, of Bereford, knight 9.
