• Background Information. 141 Between Michaelmas 1194 and Michaelmas 1195, Robert gave 600 marks to have his father's lands in Northumberland and Durham [Pipe Roll, 7 Ric I, p. 26] His father was Maldred son of Dolfin, son of Uchtred, which Dolfin in 1131 had a grant of Staindrop and Staindropshire, of which Raby is a township, from the Prior of Durham, when he became the Pior's lege man, saving his faith to the Kings of England and Scotland and the Bishop of Durham.
