bullet  Information about this person:

• Background Information. 870
Thomas de Sutton, brother of John de Sutton and both sons of Sayer de Sutton, never was summoned to parliament. In 1 Richard II, by deed of that date, settled his castle of Branceholme and manor of Sutton, on his daughters Constance and Margery, the wives of Peter de Mauley the 6th and Peter de Mauley the 7th. He may have also had a daughter named Anne or Agnes who married Sir Ralph Bulmer of Wilton first, and second Sir Edward Hasting.

• Background Information. 141
Thomas, Lord of Sutton
of Holderness, brother and heir, was aged 40 plus at the time of his brother's death. As far as it is known, he was never summoned to Parliments. In 1349 he and his wife were parties to fines of land in Yorkshire. On 20 Jul 1362, he obtained exemption from assizes, juries, appointment as mayor, sheriff &c., and from 1364 until 16 Feb 1382/3 was frequently in commissions. On 23 Apr 1379, he witnessed charters of land in Holderness.

Thomas de Sutton
married Agnes, daughter of Sir John de Hotham, of Scarborough, co. York. The date of his death is unknown. Agnes survived him and died on or before 18 March 1394/5. On his death, according to modern doctrine, the Barony supposed to have been created by the writ of 27 January 1331/2 fell into aheyance between his 3 daughters and coheirs because his son, John, died without issue before April 1381. His daughters were: (1) Constance, second wife of Piers de Mauley, and married second, Sir John Godard; (2) Margery, wife of Piers de Mauley, and mother of Piers, 5 lord Mauley, and married as her second husband , William de Aldeburgh; and (3) Agnes, wife of Sir Ralph de Bulmer, and Sir Edmund de Hastings as her second husband.
