Information about this person:
• Background Information. 141 William de Mohun, son, yet not the eldest son of William de Mohun, the Domesday tenant and Sheriff of Somerset, was present at the Council of Northampton in 1311. In the civil war, he sided with Empress Maud, and in 1138, Dunster Castle was besieged by Stephen, who, however, found it too strong to take. The Empress created William an Earl, Apr-Jun 1141. He attested a charter to the empress at Midsummer 1141 as Earl William de Moion, and styled himself, circa 1142, Earl of Somerset in his charter to Bruton Priory, which he founded. He married Agnes and appears to have died in or before 1155.

William married Agnes de Gand, daughter of Walter de Gand Lord of Folkingham and Maud de Bretagne. (Agnes de Gand was born about 1112 in Folkingham, Bourne, Lincolnshire, England.)
