• Background Information. 1040 Sir James Audley had the wardship of Harmon Mascy and the manor of Dunham in Chester; he in turned granted the custody to Alice de Beauchamp. Dunham was taken into the king's hand, along with the lands of Sir James Audley after his death by a broken neck in Ireland in 1272. In 1274, the custody of Dunham and sesin of the wardships of the lands and heir was restored to her [Calendar of Inquisitions Miscellaneous, Chancery, 1:292, no. 950; Calendar of Close Rolls; Edward I, 1:67], Hamon Mascy, the heir, married Isabella, daughter of Humphrey Beauchamp. Isabella died before the marriage was consummated and Hamon married her sister Mary. their daughter Isabel married Hugh Dutton, and they had a daughter named Katherine, whose granddaughter Joan Pulford married Robert le Grosvenor [W.H.B.B., "The Representation of the Barons of Dunham," The Genealogist, n.s., 17, 1899:16]

Ormerod's account History of the County Palatine and City of Chester 1:521 states that Isabel, "daughter of Homfrey Beauchamp," died on her wedding night and that Hamon Massy married her sister Alice. Among Hamon and Alice's five children was Isabel who married "Hugh Dytton." 713
