• Background Information. 713 Hugh de Frodesham, living during the time of Henry II and Richard I [Harl. MSS] was likely father of the next Frodesham mentioned, Peter de Frodesham. Peter, son of Hugh, was also mentioned in the Harl. MSS. as living during the time of Henry II and Richard I, and was the grantee of Richard Fitz Gilbert de Aston of land in Aston, as a site for a water mill.
"Peter de Frodesham, likely son of Peter, son of Hugh, held the bailiwick of the lordship of Frodesham between 1228 and 1240. His widow, Margaret de Bradelegh, between the years 1261 and 1267, quitclaimed to the Abbot of Stanlawe, lands lying near the Castle of Chester. She was probably an heiress. Lands in Bradley, within the lordship of Frodsham, are found some generations afterwards in the possession of the Frodeshams.
"The brother of this Peter, was Gilbert de Wodechirch, clerk, to whom Peter gave lands in Chester. From this Gilbert de Frodesham it is probable the family of Wodechurche of Wodechurche descended.
