• Dates & Events. 846 Nicholas of Aldithley or Audley, brother and heir, born bef. 1258. On 26 Jan 1296/7, he was summoned to attend the King at Salisbury, but such summons cannot be considered as a regular writ of summons to Parliament. He married Catherine, daughter of John Giffard (1st Lord Giffard of Brimpsfield), by his 1st wife, Maud, widow of William Longespee, daughterand heir of Walter de Clifford. He died 28 Aug 1299. (27 Edward I). His widow, who was born 1272, had dower 23 Oct 1299; she was living in 1322, as a nun at Ledbury. ~ Cokayne's Complete Peerage, vol. 1 (Audley), 1887 Edition, p. 198
• Background Information. 849,814 Nicholas de Audley was first summoned to parliament, 25 Edward I. According to Sir Harris Nicolas in his Peerage Synopsis [Vol.I. p. xxvii] says that it is doubtful that this was a regular summons to parliament. Nicholas died in 1299 and was succeeded by his son, Thomas lord Audley, who died shortly after 1307, underage and without issue [Dugdale], leaving a wife, daughter and heir of John lord Clavering. Thomas was succeeded by his brother, Nicholas, third lord Audley. ~Baronia Anglica concentrata, Vol. I, pp. 100-101
