Henry of Aldithley
, 2nd son of Adam of Aldithley, (who died between 1203 and 1211) by Emma, daughter of Ralf fitz Orm, of Darlaston, Staffs; was born about 1175. With his father, he was witness to a charter of Harvey Bagot in 1194. He bought large estates from Eleanor Malbank in 1214, and in 1227, he acquired the manors of Edgmund and Newport, in 1230, he acquired the manor of Ford, all in Shropshire, and all held by him direct from the Crown, though not by military or knight service. He was Under Sheriff of Salop and Stafford 1217-1220, and Sheriff 1227-1232. He was in command of the Welsh Marches 1223-1246. He built the castle of Heligh, Staffordshire and Red Castle in Shropshire. In 1223, he founded Hulton Abbey. He was appointed Custodian of Chester and Beeston Castle, 22 Jun 1237, on the extinction of the the earldom of Chester.

Henry married, 1217, Bertred, daughter of Ralf Mainwaring, Seneschal of Chester. He died in 1246, shortly before Nov. His widow was living in 1249. Bertred was buried in Hulton Abbey.

Sir Henry de Aldithele suceeded his brother before 1211 [Testa de Nevill, 1211, fol. 251] and died in 1246. In 1214, he bought the greate estates and Castle of Newhall in Cheshire from Alienor Malbank. [Ormerod's Cheshire, iii, 390]. He was Sheriff of Staffs and Salop 1216-1221 and again in 1223-1232. He acquired estates in Salop and Staffs., and built the Castles of Heley (Staffs.) and Redcastle (Salop) [Eyton, Salop, i pp. 277, 299, Pat. Rolls (1216-1228), pp. 226, 40r]. He founded Hulton Abbey in 1223, and was a Lord Marcher.

Sir Henry married (1217) Bertred, daughter of Ralf Mainwarning, Seneschal of Chester [Ormerod's, Cheshire, iii, p. 56]. Bertred survived him, and was living 1249 [Staff. Cols., iv, p. 244]. Their children were:

• A daughter (Anna) who married, 1228, to Peter de Monfort [Close Rolls (1228), p. 56], King's Counsellor in 1258.
• Ranulf, died before 1240, hostage to the kind in 1233 [Eyton, Salop, i, 289].
• Sir James de Aldithele
Emma, married Griffin-ap-Madoc, prince of Powis Vadoc, who died in 1270. Emma was a widow in 1285 [Staff. Cols., v, p. 170].
• Sir Henry Aldithele occurs as a witness in a deed in 1257 [Eyton, Salop, ix p. 275].

Hendy de Audithley was born about 1175. He married first, Petronella, daughter of Aline, who was sister of Ralph de Derleston. He married second, in 1217, Bertred Mainwaring, daughter of Sir Ralph le Mesnilwarin, Seneschal of Chester; she was living in 1249.
