• Background Information. 730 Five years after the death of Isabel's husband, Sir John le Boteler, she was living with her children in her manor house at Bewsey. On Monday before the feast of St. James the apostle (22 Jul 2437), William Poole broke into her home, raped Lady Isabel, carried her away and kept her imprisoned until the next Tuesday when he forced her to marry him at the Bidston church. Once he returned her to Birkenhead, William le Poole fled to avoid arrest.
Lady Isabel presented two petitions to parliament begging parliament to hold William Poole as a person attainted of high treason if he did not surrender and take his trial upon the indictment against him in Lancashire. This was followed by the death of her father, Sir William Harynton on 19 Sep 1440 and the death of her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Ferrar the same year. Isabel herself died the next year on 22 May.
