• Background Information. 141 Robert de Neville, son and heir of Sir Robert de Neville and Joan de Atherton, must have been of age on Michaelmas 1344. He is probably the Robert de Neville, the Prince's bachelor, who in 1358, received an annuity of 100 marks for life in consideration of notable service in Gascony and at the battle of Poitiers. He was a joint commissioner for the Prince in Sep 1357 and surveyor of his great horses, Feb 1360/1. In 1369, he was going overseas with the Duke of Lancaster, and in Jan 1369/70, proceeding to join the garrison at Guines. He was a member of Parliament for Yorkshire in 1377 and Sheriff of Yorkshire in 1378/9. In 1382, 1383 and 1385, he was commissioner in Yorkshire to restore and establish peace.
Robert de Neville married, by Michalmas 1344, Margaret, sister of Michael de la Pole, Earl of Suffolk, and daughter of Sir William de la Pole who died in 1366. Robert de Neville died 4 Apr 1413.
