• Background Information. 682 Sir John Davenport, knight, maried for his first wife, Margery, daughter of Sir William Brereton, by Rosesia, the daughter of Sir Ralph Vernon. She was the mother of his issue. His second wife was Agnes de Bradford. Sir John founed a chantry in the Chapel of Marton, in 1343, which was dissolved after the Reformation. His second wife survived him, and was remarried to Robert Massey, senior of Sale, in 1358.
