• Background Information. 713 Roger or as Ormerod has it, "Rogerum de Monte Alto, Dapifer com. Cestr" a.k.a. Roger de Montalt, was Lord of Hawarden. He was son of Robert de Montalt and the heir to his brother Randle after 1229. He gave lands in Hawerdyn and Chevelye to St. Werbergs. He was the hereditary Sensechal to the Earl of Chester. His wife was named in an Inquisition 4 Edward I, as Nichola.
• Roger and Nichola's children given by Ormerod were:
Roger de Monte Alto, Justiciar of Chester, Hereditary Seneschal, died in 1260 and was married to Cecilia, daughter of William and coheir of Hugh de Albeney, 3rd Earl of Arundel, by Mabel his wife and sister of Randle III of Chester.
• Beatrix Mantalt, living in 1243-45, concubine of William, baron of Malpas, and mother of David "the Bastard."
