Henry le Scrope, of Masham, co. York 1st son and heir, was born 29 September 1312; served under the Earl of Northampton in Scotland, and was knighted at the siege of Berwick, May 1333; fought at the battle of Halidon Hill, 20 July 1333; took part in Edward III's invasion of Scotland, 1335, and the siege of Dunbar, January-August 1336. He was at the battle of Sluys, 24 June 1340, and the siege of Tournay, June following. The escheators in cos. York, Norfolk, Gloucester, Warwick, Lincoln &c., were ordered to deliver his father's lands to him, 31 March 1341.

Henry le Scrope was summoned to a Great Council at Westminster, 16 October 1342, served in Brittany, being present at the siege of Vannes, October 1343, and Morlaix, 1344; fought at the battle of Neville's Cross, 17 October 1346 ; took part in the siege of Calais, 1346-47; was at the sea-fight off Winchilsea (Espagnols sur Mer), 29 August 1350. Henry le Scrope was summoned to Parliament as a Baron from 25 November 1350 to 7 September 1391, by writs directed Henrico le Scrop, whereby he is held to have become Lord Scrope. Commissioner to treat with the Scots at Hexham for the ransom of King David II, 8 March 1350/1, 15 October 1353 and 18 June 1354; on the Commission of the Peace, co. York, North Riding, 15 March 1350/1; Commissioner of Oyer and Terminer, co. York, North Riding, 15 May 1351; one of the ambassadors to the Pope as arbitrator between the Kings of England and France, 28 August 1354; served with Edward III in Picardy, November 1355, and at the siege of Berwick, January 1356/7. Commissioner to treat for the liberation of David II and 10 years' truce, 16 August 1357; Commissioner of Oyer and Terminer touching a complaint against the Sheriff of York, 10 December 1358; went to France in the company of John of Gaunt, 25 August 1359, and was with the King before Paris, April 1360.

Henry le Scrope was appointed Warden of Calais and Guisnes, 18 February 1360/1; Commissioner to treat with Louis de Maele, Count of Flanders, for a perpetual alliance and the marriage of Edmund of Langley (5th son of Edward III) with the Count's daughter Margaret, Duchess of Burgundy, 8 February 1361/2 and 18 December 1364; Commissioner to treat with the French concerning the treaty between the Duke of Brittany and Charles of Blois, 24 March 1360/1 and to decide questions relating to Ponthieu, 16 November 1367; P.C. before 24 November 1368; served under John of Gaunt in France, August 1369. He was appointed one of the Wardens of the West March, 5 July 1370; Steward of the Household, 29 January 1370/1 to 20 November 1371; Commissioner for various purposes, 1371 to 1376.

Henry le Scrope had confirmation for him and his heirs of a grant made to his father of 200 marks per annum to support the rank of Banneret, 30 December 1374; on the Commission of the Peace, Northumberland, 6 December 1375; Commissioner to treat for peace with France, 12 June 1376; one of the Committee of Magnates selected by the Good Parliament 1376; Commissioner to inquire into the extortions of Richard Lyons, farmer of the subsidy, 1 July 1376; Commissioner for the maintenance of the truce with Scotland, 10 June 1376. After the accession of Richard II he was appointed at the request of Parliament one of the 9 Resident Councillors, 15 October 1377; Commissioner of Array, Northumberland, 29 April 1377; co. York, North Riding, 18 February 1378/9;, Commissioner of Oyer and Terminer, Liberty of St. John of Beverley, 12 October 1381; Commissioner to preserve the peace and put down the rebels, co. York, 14 December 1381 and 8 March 1381/2, served in Scotland under John of Gaunt, 1383, and under the King, August 1385. He was granted the manor of Faxflete, co. York, 28 February 1391/2.

Henry le Scrope married Joan or Agnes. He died 31 July 1392.
