*Thomas son of Gilde or Gille of Newsham, made more than one grant of land in Newsham-upon-Tees to the abbey of Rievaulx, and a further grant was made by Constance daughter of Thomas Gille of Newsham. On 8 Apr 1315 Thomas abbot of Rievaulx and Sir Henry le Scrope entered into a covenant arranging an exchange of lands etc. in East Bolton, Wensleydale and Bellerby, the property of the abbey, against lands in Newsham on Tees, the property of Scrope.
