• Background Information. 733 Isabel de Mortimer is spoken of in a Patent of 28 May 1272 as "Isabella quae fuit uxor Johannis filli Alani." The Patent reciting that her dowry had not be awarded because Extent was yet to be made of her late husband's Estates, proceeds nevertheless to give her a third of all wardships and Escheats which might accrue instantly, out of the said Estates. Another Patent, 18 May 1272, promises to Roger de Mortimer, Isabella's fahter, one of Fitz Alan's Castles, and 100 Librates of Fitz Alan's lands, to hold during the minority of the heir.
Isabella de Mortimer married a second time to Ralph de Arderne. An Inquest ordered 13 Feb 1283, establishes the rights of Ralph in certains fees, and which had constituted part of Isabella's dower. Isabella married for a third time on 2 Sep 1285 to Robert de Hastinges. ~Antiquities of Shropshire, vol. VII, pgs. 259-260
• Background Information. 141 John Fitz Alan married Isabel, daughter of Roger de Mortimer, of Wigmore, by Maud, daughter and coheir of William de Briouze, of Brecknock. He died 18 March 1271/2, and was buried in Haughmond Abbey, Salop. His widow married, before 1273, Ralph d'Arderne (living 1283) and married 3rdly, 2 September 1285, at Poling, Sussex, (privately) Robert de Hastang, for which marriage, having omitted to obtain Royal license, she was fined £1,000. He was living 1 April 1292 and she d. shortly bef. 1 April 1292.
