Sir Thomas de Furnival

~ Weis's Ancestral Roots of Certain American Colonists Who Came to America before 1700, 8th Edition, 148A:29, Thomas de Furnival, of Sheffield, Yorkshire, the son of Gerard de Furnival and Maud de Luvetot, married Berta. Berta married for a second time to Ralph le Bigod. ¹⁶⁰

Sir Thomas was married to Berta and their son and heir was Gerard de Furnivalle who died without male heir and was succeeded by his younger brother, another Sir Thomas. The elder Sir Thomas Furnville, living 13 Apr 1238, was the son & heir of Gerard de Furnivalle, by Maud (living 23 June 1247), daughter and heir of William de Luvetot, Lord of Worksop (who was dead in 1181), by Maud (aged 24 in 1185), daughter of Walter fitz Robert. The younger Maud was recorded in 1185 to be aged 7, but she and Gerard her husband, were said to be both under age, 12 Mar 1200/1. They had livery of her father's lands, 20 May 1203. Gerard was son and heir of Gerard de Furnivalle, who accompanied Richard I in his crusade.

Thomas married Berta de Ferrières, daughter of William de Ferrières 4th Earl of Derby and Agnes of Chester Lady of Chartley. (Berta de Ferrières was born in Ferrers, Derbyshire, England and died after 10 Feb 1267.)
