• Background Information. 748 Waleran de Newburgh followed his older brother, William, as the Earl of Warwick. He was born sometime before 1153, and succeeded his brother on 15 Nov 1184. He was bearer of "the right-hand sword" at the coronation of John on 27 May 1199.
For his first wife, he married sometime before 1190, Margaret, the daughter of Humphrey de Bohun, by Margaret, the daughter and eventually coheir of Miles de Cloucester, Earl of Hereford. He is said to have taken a second wife named Maud, and for a thrid wife, Alice, widow of John de Lamest, of Colley Weston, Northamptonshire, and daughter of Robert de Harcourt of Staton by Isabel, daughter and heir of Richard de Camville of Stanton. He died on 12 Dec 1204. His widow was living in 9 John, or 1207/08. ~The Complete Peerage of England, Vol. VIII, 1896 edition, pg. 53
