Roger de Middleton and Roger his son attested a Rochdale charter in 1296 [Byron Chartul. Edw. I, 15]. In 1306, as Roger son of Roger de Middleton he appeared as defendant [Coram Rege R. 184, m. 24 d]. He obtained from Ellis de Ainsworth, in 1310, a messuage and land in Middleton [Final Conc, ii, 6]. In 1317 he secured three messuages and various lands from Richard de Rumworth and Maud his wife [ibid, ii, 22].
In 1313, Roger de Middleton and his wife, Agnes, made a settlement of the manor, the remainders after the death of Agnes being, went to their daughters, in succession, Maud, Ellen, Alice, Margaret, Margery, and Joan. Again in 1317, a similar agrrangement was made with respect to the third part of the manor and the advowson to the church. Roger died in Aug. 1322, and his wife Maud was still living in 1353, but likely died sometime near this date.
