Sir John de Grey
, Lord Grey (of Codnor), son and heir of Sir Richard de Grey & Joan Fitz Payn, had livery (after homage) of his father's lands 26 Mar. 1335, saving to Joan, late wife of Richard, her dower. He was summoned to Parlilment from 1 Apr. (1355) 9 Edw. III to 23 Nov. (1392) 16 Ric. II, by writs directed Johanni de Grey de Codenore or Johanni filio Ricardi de Grey de Codenore or Johanni de Grey de Codnore, and to various Councils and for Military Service between those dates. He was serving in Scotland at great expense 18 Oct. 1335, when he had respite of debts due to the Exchequer, and Joan, his mother, had release from any distraint made. About midsummer 1345 he crossed over with the Earls of Derby and Pembroke to Gascony. He was in the Crécy expedition, joining the King during the siege of Calais.

On 13 Aug. 1347 Sir John de Grey, and his heirs had a grant of free warren in all their demesne lands of Barton-on-Trent, Notts. In 1350, he had a very grave sickness. On 1 July 1359, he was granted at farm the city of Rochester and the keepership of the castle there, to hold the same for life. On 16 Aug. following he had a protection on going abroad in the retinue of John, Earl of Richmond. On 20 June 1365, when going on a pilgrimage, he nominated attorneys (his Brother Henry de Grey being one). In 1371 he was, on account of old age and bodily infirmities, excused from attendance at parliaments, councils, &c., in consideration of his long service in the wars beyond and on this side of the seas.

Sir John de Grey, married, 1stly, before 4 Sep. 1325, Eleanor. He married, 2ndly, before 20 Oct. 1330, Alice, daugther of Sir Warin de Lisle, of Kingston-Lisle, by Alice, da. of Henry de Tyes, Lord Tyes, and heir of her brother Henry de Tyes. In 1344 John de Grey of Codnor and Alice his wife, had licence to choose their confessor. He died 14 Dec. 1392, having chosen his tomb in the Carmelite Church of Aylesford in Kent.

John married Alice de Lisle, daughter of Sir Waren de Lisle Knight and Alice de Tyeys, before 20 Oct 1330.141 (Alice de Lisle was born about 1312 in Kingston Lisle, Sparsholt, Berkshire, England and died after 1344 141.)
