The Annals of Ulster record that "Tairrdelbach Ua Briain was expelled from the kingship of Munster" in 1165 by "his son…Muircertach" [Annals of Ulster, p. 147]. The Annals of Tigernach (Continuation) record that "Toirdelbach Húa Briain again took the kingship of Munster" in 1166 [Annals of Tigernach II, Continuation, p. 416]. The Annals of Ulster record the death in 1167 of "Toirrdelbach Ua Briain" [Annals of Ulster, 1167.7, p. 159].
