• Background Information. 1181 Nicholas Bonville, who died in 1294, married the heiress of Pyne, of Shute. William, the fourth in descent from Nicholas, was summoned to parliament as Baron Bonville in 1449.

• Background Information. 1274 Sir William Bonville did homage for his lands in Somerset, 4 Feb 1265. Proof of age, Inq. 48 Hen. III, No. 37 He was the father of Nicholas Bonville wgi died 23 Edw. I (1295). This Nicholas Bonville married Hawise, widow of Thomas Payne, died, Edward I, Inq. p.m. 23 Edw. I, No. 44.

• Background Information. 1181 The manor of Shute belonged to a family who took their name from this, the place of their residence, anciently called Schete, and it seems to have passed by marriage to the Pynes. One of the co-heiresses of Sir Thomas Pyne brought this manor to Nicholas Bonville, great-great-grandfather of William Lord Bonville, who was beheaded after the battle of St. Albans.
