• Background Information. 1211 Simon de Stonegrave (who had a brother Henry) was tenant in 1200, and father of William father of the Simon de Stonegrave to whom Henry III in 1257 granted a weekly market on Monday at his manor of Stonegrave, a yearly fair on the vigil, feast and morrow of the Feast of the Holy Trinity and free warren in Stonegrave, Nunnington, Ricalf, Ness, Waterholme and the Newhay.
Simon married Beatrice daughter and heir of Richard son and heir of Jordan Foliot, and left sons William, Peter and John. William's only child Joan died without issue, and Peter, who was lord in 1267 and died in 1267\endash 8, also left no children.
