• Background Information. 141 Henry Lovel married Alice de Cary(*). He died in or before 1194. His widow offered 100s liberty not to marry unless she so wished, subject to the King's consent. In 1200, she claimed land in Staines, taken into the King's hand for some default on the part of her son Ralph Lovel. Alice was living in 1212.
(*) She may have been heiress or coheiress of the grantee of escheated estates of Robert de Bampton.
