Sir Roger de Moels Knight

• Background Information. 141 Roger de Moels, 2nd but 1st surviving son and heir of Nicholas, was under age in 1253. He was an adherent of the King in the Barons' War. In 1267 he was one of the keepers of the Isle of Wight. On 2 Mar1267/8 he had a grant of a weekly market and yearly fair at his manor of King's Carswell, co. Devon. In 1277 he took part in the Welsh campaign, and was one of the barons of West Wales guaranteeing the peace with Rhys ap Meredith. The castle and honour of Lampadervaur, with all the King's lands in co. Cardigan, were committed to him in Mar 1277/8. In 1282 he was again in the Welsh wars. On 6 Oct 1283 he obtained a pardon for the arrears in his account when he was bailiff in Wales, and in Jan 1284/5 he had a protection on going beyond the seas. He was appointed on various commissions. In 1293 he was keeper of the forest of Braden. The following year he was appointed marshal of the army sent against the Welsh, for that expedition, during pleasure. The name of his wife is unknown. He died before 17 June 1295.
