Weis' Ancestral Roots of Certain American Colonists Who Came to America before 1700, 8th Edition, 28:34-35 & Magna Charta Sureties, 1215, Weis, 35:8, gives Alice's parents as Edmund Fitz Alan and Sibyl Montagu, daughter of William Montagu. Most other sources, Burke and Collins including, also call Alice the daughter of Sir Edmund Fitz Alan. Cokayne's Complete Peerage, 2nd Edition, Vol. I, on the other hand makes her the daughter of Richard Fitz Alan and Isabel Despenser and the sister of Edmund.

• Background Information. 1171 Sir Leonard Carew, son and heir age 20 at death of his father, died 4 Oct 1369, Inq. p.m. 14 Edw. III, No.12, and married Alice, daughter of Edmund Fitz-Alan de Arundell, Kt., younger brother to Richard Earl of Arundell. Sir Leonard and Alice were parents of Thomas Carew, Baron Hydron, son and heir, age 8 years at the death of his father, ob. 9 Hen. VI, who married to Elizabeth, da. and coh. of Sir William Bonville of Shute.

• Background Information. 141 Sir Leonard de Carew, born 1342 and died 1370, married Alice, the daughter of Richard Fitz Alan and his first wife Isabel le Despenser, daughter of Sir Hugh le Despenser, the younger by Eleanor, daughter and coheir of Gilbert de Clare, Earl of Gloucester.
