• Background Information. 713 Sir Geoffrey de Chedle, knight, also occurs in serval of the charters as his father in the reigns of Henry III and Edward I, and could not be identical to the previous Geoffrey de Chedle or Dutton, whose wife was Agnes because Agnes grants to here son Geoffry de Chedle half Bolinton during the reign of Henry III. His inquisition post mortem took place in 22 Edward I. After his death he id called "de Chedle," is found to have held this manor of the king, as earl by service of a kinght's fee, paying a mark of silver called reynegelt, finding a judge once a fortnight in the court of Macclesfeld, and making a portion of the hey or fence of the Combes in Macclesfeld Forest.
