John de Schirburn, married Eva daughter and heiress of Walter de Carleton. He lived 56 Henry III, and was succeeded by his son Sir Robert Schireburn. Sir Robert was living 3 and 18 Edward II, and married Alice, daughter and coheir of John de Blacburn of Wysewall.

Robert de Sherburne's name can be found in documents from 6 Edward I (1277/78) to 16 Edward III (1342/43). He was Senschal of Clitheroe in 1278, of Blackburnshire in 1281, 1305/06 and again in 1312 and of Lonton in 1309. Robert was knighted in 1294, though excused by special favor from taking up his knighthood until 1326. In October of 1313 he was one of the adherents of Thomas, Earl of Lancashire, who received a pardon for his participation in the death of Peter de Gaveston. In the same year, he received a pardon for acquiring land in Penrys. In 1318, he was a conservator of the peace in Lancashire, and on 20 Feb 1319-20, Robert de Sherburne and others were recognisants to the Abbot of Cheshire for 60 marks, 12 and 13 Edward II, he bieng the Vice-Justice of the County.

Robert married beofre 1323 to Alcia, daughter and coheiress of John de Blakburne of Wiswall by Margaret, sister of Robert de Holand. This marriage possibly occurred before 1311, for in that year we find Robert holding land at Wiswall. Alicia brought him part of the manor of Wiswall, and after his death, by deed dated at Clitheroe 16 Edward III (1342/43), quit-claimed her right in lands at Wovercotes. She was living in 1358.

In 13 Apr 1325, Robert was at Preston Assizes; in 1327 he was agian the Vice-Justine of Cheshire. In 1328, he was appointed to take an inquest on de la March, and he is one of a commission of oyer and terminer at Whalley, a position he held at various place between 1331 to 1333. In 1328, he was poointed to the custody of the Abbey of Combermere, Cheshire. In 1332, he was appointed to see to ships in the ports of Chester and Flint counties, and in the same year was among those appointed to chose 400 archers and 100 hoblers in Lancashire to go with the King for the defense of the marches of Scotland.

He and his wife, Alicia granted a fourth part of their manor of Aighton to their son Robert on the Friday next after the Feast of St. Martin in the winter of 1333 in in 1334. His name shows many times in Rolls from this date until his death which took place about 1342/43. He and his wife left four children:

Sir Robert Shireburn was the son of John Shireburn and the grandson of Robert Shireburn. Sir Robert Shireburn was knighted 3 Mar 1291. He was elected a Knight of the Shire in 1335, and held the office of Seneschal or Steward of Blackburnshire and Clitheroe. He survied until 1342, and married Alice, daughter and coheir of John Blackburn of Wiswall and Margaret Holand.

Sir John Tempest's wife was Katherine, daughter of Sir Robert Shirburne of Mitton chivaler by his wife Alice daughter and heir of Sir John de Blackburne of Wysell knt (he died by 1304) by Margery, daughter of Robert de Roland of Upholand [Sherburn Ped 1691 Stowe MSS [B.M.] No. 711, fol. 6 and V.C.H. Lanc: vol. 7, p.3]. In 1353, Katherine and Sir John Tempest, her husband, brought a writ of novel disseisin of land in Wode Plumpton, by her attorney Adam Fox, against John and Isabel de Stafford and others [Lanc: Assize Ro: No. 1, m.m. 1 and 27]. 7 January 1353-4, Dame Alice de Shirburn wid: of Sir Robert granted to Kath: and her husband Sir John all the crops growing on the land she had given them [Kuerden MSS [Coll. of Arms) vol. 3, No. 69 A 3]. In August 1354 Katherine wife of Sir John Tempest of co. York had a Papal Indult to choose her confessor &c. at the hour of death [Papal Req: Cal: vol: 3, p.527].


Robert married Alicia Blackburne, daughter of Sir John de Blackburne Knight and Margaret de Holand, about 1311 in Lancashire, England 722,822,827,978.,1226 (Alicia Blackburne died after 1358 in Lancashire, England 722.)
