His father Ralph was the son of Godgifu and Dreux, comté de Vexin, and his great grandfather was Æthelred II, King of England in 979-1016, 160

• Background Information. 779 Harold, according to Dugdale, is the son of Ralph, Earl of Hereford. He possessed at the general survey, numerous lordships in England. Among these were Sudley and Todington in Gloucester, with the castle Ewyas, and other lands in Herefordshire, secured most likely because of his marriage to Maud, daughter of Hugh Lupus, Earl of Chester. Harold had two sons, John, his heir who assumed the surname from Sudley, the chief seat which he inherited; and Robert, who had the Castle of Ewyas, and therefore assumed the surname Ewyas.

• Background Information. 141 Harold de Sudeley, son and heir of Ralph, held Burton Dasset & Droitwich, Warwickshire, in addition to Sudeley, Toddington and Chilvers Coton. In the Domesday Book, [vol. i, ff. 169, 177, & 244], he is described as Heraldus filius Randulti comitis. Harold made grants of land in Sudeley to Winchcombe Abbey. His wife and the date of his death is not knwon.
