• Background Information. 814 Walter de Norwich, one of the barons of the Exchequer, had a summons to the parliament of 8 Edward II, when the judges and others of the king's council were inter-mixed with the earls and barons in the same writ; from which it is to be inferred, that he was not by that writ created a baron of the realm, especially as thereafter his name was always inclued among those of the justices and others of the kings's council. He died sometime around 3 Edward III and was succeeded by his son, Sir John de Norwich.

• Background Information. 815 Walter de Norwich was on several ocasions appointed lieutenant of the treasure. At various times he was also appointed to supply the place of the treasurer while that later was absent from the exhequer on the king's business, these appointments were entered on the close roll. • Background Information. 816 The Exchequer was not fixed at any certain place, although it usuallsy sat at Westministe. During Edward I's reign, it sat at Shrewbury and York. In 1312, Walter de Norwich was appointed Chief Baron; and from that date it exists as a distinct court. The Cheif Baron of the Exchequer was usually a lawyer. ~History of English Law, p. 102
• Information. 817 From A Short Calendar of the Deeds Relating to Norwich, p. 94: "Hugh, son of Reginald de Sproustonn, by William Brond his attorney, and Margery, wife of the said Hugh, to Sir Walter de Norwich, Knight and Lady Katerine his wife in St. Martin de Coselanie."
• Background Information. 829 Walter de Norwich, who in the 5th of Edward II, was made one of the Barons of the Exchequer, and at the same time obtained a charter of free warren in all his demense lands. In some years afterwards he was made treasure of the exchequer, and had a grant of the manors of Dalham and Bradenfield, with the advowson of the church of Dalham, in Suffolk. He was a learned judge, and died in 2 Edward III. He was succeeded by his son, Sir John de Norwick, Knight. ~Burke's A General and Heraldic Dictionary of Peerages , p. 402
