• Background Information. 826 There are only family legends that tell us about the found of the Worsely family, Elias, the father of Richard Worsely. He was called "Elias the Giant," and lived at the time of the Conqueror. He is said to have become a Crusader, "fought many duels of combat, and for the love of Jesus Christ, obtained many victories," and died and was buried at Rhodes. [Harland and Wilkinson, Lancs.
