Information about this person:
• Background Information. 141 William de Grandison, brother of Sir Otes de Grandison, was most probably son and heir of Pierre de Granson, Seigneur de Granson on the Lake of Neufchâtel, by Agnes, daughter of Ulric, comté de Neufchâtel, and grandson of Ebal IV, Seigneur de Granson.
Pedigrees differ, sometimes his father being given as Guillaume and sometimes Pierre. On the other hand, M.L. de Charriere (whose work seems to be the most authentic), in Les Dynastes de Grandiso jusqu' XIII Siecle, gives Amadée Seigneur de Granson (d. 1300), as father of Otes and William de Grandison, by his wife Benoite de la Tour de Gerenstein. The last piece justicative of this work is of date 1258 and there is no actual authority for the statement, without which it is almost impossible to overlook the fact of the entry in the Grandison breviary [B.M. royal MS. 2A18]: "Obitus dne Agnet. Dne de Gandesone et eodem die obit. dni Willmi fil. Ejusd. Agnet. Xxvii die ejusdem mensis [June]," in which William's mother is said to be Agnes. Also no Amadée appears in England, yet there is an entry in the Close Rolls [36 Henry III, m. 13], 17 May 1252, that "Dominus" Piers Granson was to have £20 on his annual fee. This may well have been the father of Otes and William, for Pierre de Granson is stated to have died 31 Aug 1263.
~Cockayne's Complete Peerage, (Grandison), Vol. VI, p. 69
Pierre married Agnes de Neufchâtel, daughter of Ulric comté Neufchâtel and Unknown. 141 (Agnes de Neufchâtel was born about 1230 in Neufchâtel, Helvetia, Switzerland.)
