• Background Information. 713 ~George Ormerod's, The History of the County Palatine and City of Chester, Vol. II, p. 290, The Bulkeley's of Haughton descended from William de Halghton, a younger brother of the manerial lords of this township, who by Inq. p.m. 39 Edward III died seized of lands in Halghton & Tarporley, leaving Nichola, daughter of Thomas le Brid, and wife of Peter de Bulkylegh, next of kin and heir. This Peter de Bulkeley was the third son of Robert Bulkeley of Davenham, a second son of William de Bulkeley lord of the manor of Bulkeley in 1322.
The "Haughton of Haughton predigree," Vol. II, p. 291, shows Nichola as the daughter of Thomas le Bird (or Brid) and grand daughter of William de Halghton. Nichola was heir to her grandfather, of full age in 39 Edward III, and the wife of Peter fitz Robert de Bulkyley of Oteworth. William is shown as the possible son of Thomas de Halghton, son of John de Halghton, son of Robert de Halghton and his wife Sibillia.
The "Bird of Broxton Pedigree," Vol. II, p. 675, has Nichola as the daughter of Thomas Bird of Broxon, living in 1333 and his wife, a daughter and heiress of William de Halghton, who died per Inq. p.m. 39 Edward II. Thomas Bird is given as the son of Uchtred le Bird living 11-12 Edward II.
