Noted events in his life were:
• Background Information: 252 Diego Hurtado, married, declared a daughter and his mother, with five young sisters and two servants. These were undoubtedly Doña Bernardina and the as yet unmarried sisters, Isabél, Catalina, María, Maríana, and a fifth whose name has not been encountered.
In 1681 Diego was described as being twenty-three or twenty-four years of age, married , tall and slim with good features, wavy hair and no beard. He passed muster with his brother Andrés. Diego and his wife, Joséfa de la Fuente, were dead by 1694 when their daughter, Juana, married Cristóbal de Cuéllar.

Josefa de Fuente, widow of Diego Hurtado, stated that she has two children named Juana, age fifteen, and Diego age six; and one Apache woman.

Diego married Josefa de la Fuente, daughter of Juan Fernández de la Fuente and Unknown, about 1676. (Josefa de la Fuente was born about 1662 and died before 1694.)
