• Background Information. 252 Juan Luján II was active in the political intrigues of Governor Rosa's times and after. He was a captain and Alcalde Mayor of the the Taos-Picurís district. He was a brother in law of Francisco Gómez, and a kinsman of Pedro Lucero. In 1661, he had an estancia in Taos Valley, and was known as "El Viejo" in relationship to Juan Luján, his son. His daughter was María, who was the wife of Juan de Archuleta.

• Background Information. 250 On 12 August 1662, Juan Luján, el viejo [ONMF: 63], "vecino y Alcalde Mayor de La Cañada," gave his age as 60, indicating he was born circa 1602.
